IPL Match Review: Chennai Superkings V Punjab Kings XI

The Punjab Kings XI –

“ They tried so hard and got so far,

In the end, it doesn’t even matter…”

Yes, the Superkings have done it. Chennai Superkings have beaten Punjab Kings XI by 33 runs on their home ground. Though Preity’s team put up a decent fight ( better than the Royal Challengers anyways) they were left pretty short of the mammoth target of 241.

Batting first, Dhoni’s team were struggling a bit at 63-3. But then came a brilliant innings from Michael Hussey who effortlessly compiled 116 off just 54 balls. His fluent strokes ensured that the run rate never dropped below 10 and with some cameo innings from Suresh Raina (32 off 13) and S. Badrinath (31 of 14) the Superkings easily reached the coveted 200 mark in just 18 overs. Sixes were more frequent than boundaries as the Superkings ended on 240.

The chase was always going to be difficult. And although the Mohali team kept their runrate around 10 rpo they could never really hit off some monstrous overs and ended at 207. James Hopes and Sangakkara gave some hope but after wickets fell, it was always difficult to up the rate.

The opening statement has been made. Now its time to halt the Knight riders…

Brief Scores: CSK 240-5 ( Hussey 116* I Pathan 2-47 )

PXK 207 ( J.Hopes 71, Sangakkara 54, Murli 1-33 )
